About TAFOSSA

Need for establishing TAFOSSA.
Tanzania is not an isolated island, thus since there is gaining momentum in the whole of Africa for migrating to FOSS, Tanzania has to take the lead and establish a association which will oversee and implement this initiatives. It should be noted that, this is not an easy task, since most of the current systems are running on CSS as opposed to FOSS.

The envisage association should aim at;

1. creating awareness of FOSS in the country
2. carry out training and capacity building activities geared towards the implementation of FOSS
3. develop and maintain a knowledge warehouse of expertise within the country
4. establish an incubation centre where young graduates can be trained and groomed as FOSS experts.
5. Spearhead the development of FOSS portals nationwide
6. Create opportunities for technical experts nationwide to fully participate in the development of open source software.

Strategies to achieve the above objectives;

1. conducting seminars, workshops and awareness campaigns through out the country.
2. urging key government organs to support open source development in the country
3. urging donor communities and other institutions within the country to consider funding open source software in their development activities
4. urging the government to adopt the FOSS policy
5. promoting FOSS capacity and skills development country wide through education with emphasis to women and youth
6. create FOSS women groups
7. create FOSS youth groups
